Biography:
Julie began working at Penn State University with students as an Academic Adviser in September 2011 starting in the SOC/CRIM Department. In December 2014 she moved to the Psychology Department as an adviser, and in 2019 she moved to the Economics Department. She has greatly enjoyed working with college students in the College of the Liberal Arts here at Penn State University.
Her professional career began directly out of graduate school where she attained a position at her high school Alma mater in Jersey Shore, PA. She enjoyed working as a secondary guidance counselor with middle and high school students. After 7 1/2 great years there, with 5 of those years including a long commute to work, she decided she needed to work closer to home and to find a new professional challenge. She began working as an Academic Counselor with the Penn State University Upward Bound Program. This program serves high school students who would be first in their family to go to college for a bachelor's degree and who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. After 2 1/2 years there, she began the most challenging job she's experienced thus far - being a stay-at-home mom with her son.
She tried hard to slow him down and prevent him from growing up so fast, but when kindergarten was drawing near for him, she found her new professional position here at Penn State. Penn State pride is all around and she feels very fortunate to be working here with such great students, faculty, staff, and administration.
Julie’s outside interests and hobbies include reading, skiing, scrapbooking, and spending time with family and friends, especially her young son who has lots of energy and always keeps her smiling.
