Education Abroad Programs Recommended by the Department:
CIEE: St. Petersburg, Russian Language
The teaching in this program has traditionally been at a high level and the classes are fairly small. Penn State students study side by side with students from other major U.S. Russian programs. The locus of the program is St. Petersburg, which is a major cultural center, yet somewhat less hectic than Moscow. In addition, since Penn State participates in the CIEE program, transferring grades from a summer, semester or full year of study broad is relatively easy.
Academic Notes:
The department recommends two full years of Russian (16 credits) prior to a summer study abroad program, and an additional semester for students choosing a semester or year-long program. Students should plan to take RUS 400 (the senior seminar) and RUS 405 (Russian literature seminar) at University Park.
