Education Abroad Programs Recommended by the Department:

Education Abroad programs usually have few if any psychology courses appropriate for Penn State Psychology majors. PSYBS students pursuing the Business option have found that the Liberal Arts & Business program in Barcelona provides a good opportunity to take option courses.

Other recommended programs include:

IES: London, City University - This direct enrollment program allows students to take courses with local students at City University in the heart of London which offers a large selection of courses,  the range of course can be at the City University's website.

Melbourne: University of Melbourne- This exchange program at the University of Melbourne offers a large selection of courses in many fields. Review the university's website to learn more about academics and campus life

Academic Notes:

Psychology students should plan to take mostly General Education, Bachelor of Arts, or elective credits when they study abroad. Few psychology courses are offered in Education Abroad programs, and psychology courses offered in other countries are often not appropriate in level or content for fulfilling Psychology major requirements. In planning study abroad, it is important to consider the sequencing of courses needed to complete major requirements; in particular, PSYCH 301W and 6 credits of 400-level Psychology are prerequisites for the required Senior Seminar in Psychology (PSYCH 490). Studying abroad thus often fits better if done in summer or in the junior year.

Other Important Information:

Psychology students planning to study abroad in their senior year must plan carefully to meet major requirements. They should also be aware that applications for graduate study in Psychology are due as early as late November or early December at many universities.
