Liberal Arts Career Week

Liberal Arts Career Week (January 27-31, 2020), is a week-long event designed to provide students with opportunities to develop professional skills and provide networking opportunities that will support their future career paths. By participating in this week’s employer and alumni panels, workshops, and networking events, students can learn skills needed to embark on their career journey and achieve success in their professional lives.

Monday, January 27

1:15–2:15 p.m. Career Crash Course

Join the Career Enrichment Network’s Network Assistant for a crash course on the resources of the office as well as advice on how to start your career journey.

3:30–4:30 p.m. Peer to Peer Career Advice Students helping students to learn more about their career journey and provide helpful advice in seeking internships, study abroad, and research opportunities. 134 HUB
6:00–7:00 p.m. Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone: Networking and Interviewing

Learn how improv can help you to develop skills to engage with others in a professional setting.

Professional Interviewing 101

Learn the ins and outs of a job interview including employer expectations, what to do before and after, and how to share your best self.

Workshop available to both graduate and undergraduate students.

3:30–4:30 p.m. Marketing Your Liberal Arts Degree

Learn with Deloitte Consulting how to market your liberal arts degree and transferable skills in a variety of industries.

Workshop presented by Deloitte Consulting.

Meet, Greet, and Eat with Employers   

Join recruiters from a variety of organizations within sales, business, marketing, customer services, non-profit, government, and more. Short employer presentations will begin around 6:15 p.m. and conclude by 6:45 p.m.  Recruiters include GEICO, City Year, Kohl’s, Penn State Libraries, Enterprise Holdings, Inc., Teach for America, Altria, Centre Helps, Strawberry Fields, and Deloitte.

Refreshments provided by GEICO.

10:00–11:00 a.m. Deciding on Law School Join Kathy Garren (Pre-Law Adviser), Amanda DiPolvere (Assistant Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid at Penn State Law), and Pop Little (Penn State Law student, L3) to decide if law school is right for you. Information will include understanding the application process, deadlines, the LSAT, and the current Penn State resources available to help you. 134 HUB
11:15–12:15 p.m. What is a Gap Year?

Learn about a variety of post-graduation opportunities as well as Penn State resources available to you after graduation.
