Give us a brief summary of your experience?

This summer, I interned at Fidelity Investments in Boston, MA as an investment intern in the Asset Management division. I was able to rotate between many different asset classes including equities, fixed income, high income & alternatives, quantitative data, and strategic advisors where I completed research reports, presentations, investment strategies, and financial models. I was able to present my ideas to senior members in the firm including managing directors, portfolio managers, and senior analysts. Moreover, I received intensive training in various finance topics including accounting, valuation, excel, and global asset allocation, and had the chance to network and meet employees in almost every division!

How did this experience impact you academically?

This internship has greatly impacted me academically by providing me a vast amount of feedback. After every project and case study, we were given amazing detailed feedback which was monumental in realizing where I needed to improve. All of our presentations had over 50 people watching that were genuinely interested in the work that we did and were eager to provide me with tips and advice for how to improve going forward. Moreover, this internship gave me a huge network that I can always reach out to with anything. Although I am not studying finance at Penn State, this experience has allowed me to broaden my skill set and learn about areas of finance that I would have never been exposed to otherwise.

"I received a return offer for my junior year with Fidelity Investments and hope I can continue to shape my niche skill set and capabilities through continued learning at Penn State and outside of the university."

How will this experience impact your career goals?

This internship greatly impacted my career goals as I have established my future career plans and realized that I want to do work in the credit and distressed debt industry. My rotation with the high yield and alternatives team was the most impactful and I was able to narrow down my broad interest in investing. I received a return offer for my junior year with Fidelity Investments and hope I can continue to shape my niche skill set and capabilities through continued learning at Penn State and outside of the university.

How has the College of the Liberal Arts helped you to find and/or succeed in this experience (e.g., adviser, faculty, staff, enrichment funds, etc.)?

The college helped me by providing me enrichment funds that I made use of during the summer! I was able to put all my focus into my own personal and professional development without worrying about housing and transportation.
