Give us a brief summary of your experience?

As a leadership training programs intern, my team worked with airline leaders and executives to identify and implement best practices in the realm of executive and organizational leadership. I had the honor of working with leaders across all aspects of the company to maximize their leadership potential. On the weekends, I found myself flying all across the country exploring different Southwest destinations including Seattle, New York City, and Puerto Rico.

How did this experience impact you academically?

This experience allowed me to apply my academic experience within a Fortune 500 company and required translating management and organizational leadership studies into concrete action plans implemented by the company. Utilizing all of the fabulous resources provided by professors, I was able to make a tangible impact on Southwest as we seek to lead the airline industry in sustainable leadership development.

How will this experience impact your career goals?

Working in the airline industry has been a dream for my entire life. Being able to impact the leaders of our company in such a unique and beloved industry has truly impacted me beyond compare. That in addition to Southwests' legendary culture of love has enabled me to grow personally and professionally this summer.

How has the College of the Liberal Arts helped you to find and/or succeed in this experience (e.g., adviser, faculty, staff, enrichment funds, etc.)?

I would have never known about Southwests' legendary culture and business practices if not for Kathryn Dulugos' LHR305 class. Additionally, the Chapel Executive Internship Program gave me the resources to unlock the most out of my experience enabling me to travel the nation, make an impact, and grow immensely. Moving across the country to Dallas was a daunting challenge but my liberal arts education and the resources provided by the College assisted me in every step of the way.
