Experience Time: Spring 2022

Give us a brief summary of your experience?

For the embedded course, we traveled to Berne and Geneva, where we explored the production and exportation of various Swiss products. We met with international organization leaders and learned about the challenges facing international groups (banks, consulting firms, labor organizations) today.

How did this experience impact you academically?

I learned about what it means to be part of the world economy and the impacts a small (or large) event has on various sectors. My trip abroad has redefined my interest in international economics and affairs.

"Through his courses, and Prof. Tantihkarnchana's Econ 333 course, I felt equipped and prepared to analyze the different aspects of our trip and the conversations we had with speakers."

How will this experience impact your career goals?

This experience impacted my career goals because it allowed me to reexamine my goals. My dream has always been to work for the United Nations and, during this study abroad, I was able to see it for myself. The experience has inspired me to continue to work assiduously towards my goal.

How has the College of the Liberal Arts helped you to find and/or succeed in this experience (e.g., adviser, faculty, staff, enrichment funds, etc.)?

The College of the Liberal Arts helped me succeed in this experience because my mentor, Professor Wooten, led the trip and was my initial connection. Through his courses, and Prof. Tantihkarnchana's Econ 333 course, I felt equipped and prepared to analyze the different aspects of our trip and the conversations we had with speakers. Through my Liberal Arts courses, I felt prepared to ask inquisitive and curious questions.

How has the Paterno Fellows Program had an impact on this experience?

Paterno Fellows prepared me before my trip by, over my academic career at Penn State, encouraging me to try new things and take risks. Through PFP programming, I learned more about the world and became more curious.
