Give us a brief summary of your experience?

I examined the past writings of W.E.B Du Bois in order to locate references he made to the classical world. I reported this information to my mentor, Dr. Mathias Hanses, in order to assist him with his research.

How did this experience impact you academically?

This experience helped me to develop several important academic skills. I was able to improve the speed with which I could read large amounts of text, which will undoubtedly prove useful in my academic life. It also taught me how to best manage my time in order to succeed academically. Finally, this internship introduced me to a new way in which CAMS can be applied to my studies.

"This [experience] will allow me to identify which possible future career I find most compelling and allow me to adjust my plans as such."

How will this experience impact your career goals?

This experience allowed me to explore one of the main possible careers my major allows (i.e., that of an academic researcher). This will allow me to identify which possible future career I find most compelling and allow me to adjust my plans as such.

How has the College of the Liberal Arts helped you to find and/or succeed in this experience (e.g., adviser, faculty, staff, enrichment funds, etc.)?

The faculty members of the Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies Department were extremely helpful in helping me to find this internship, guiding the direction of my research, and helping me gain access to libraries. The College of Liberal Arts very generously provided me with funding to continue my research throughout the summer.

How has the Paterno Fellows Program had an impact on this experience?

The Paterno Fellows Program provided me with many of the skills I needed to succeed in this research opportunity.
