Chapel Executive Intern
Experience Time: Summer 2021

Give us a brief summary of your experience?

My role as a capital markets intern was to work closely with the Director of Capital Markets. We analyzed company financial data and prepared deliverables for the CEO in order to make better company financial decisions.

How did this experience impact you academically?

Overall, this internship greatly influenced my undergraduate education because I was able to learn more about mortgages and the overall financial industry. Although I was only able to obtain a small glimpse of what the mortgage industry was like, just listening to the mortgage officers talking with their clients was great insight to how the industry operates.

"This greatly influenced my future job searches, as I will now look for not only company goals and operations, but also the culture of the company."

How will this experience impact your career goals?

Our CEO always stressed that the number one customer for UMortgage is not homebuyers, but the employees. To him, happy employees mean better production and overall better work atmosphere. This greatly influenced my future job searches, as I will now look for not only company goals and operations, but also the culture of the company.

How has the College of the Liberal Arts helped you to find and/or succeed in this experience (e.g., adviser, faculty, staff, enrichment funds, etc.)?

A Career Enrichment Network staff member reached out and encouraged me to apply for the Chapel Executive Internship award when I originally applied for general Liberal Arts enrichment funds. If it weren't for the guidance of the staff member, I never would have  been able to be considered for the Chapel Executive Internship Program funding.
