Give us a brief summary of your experience?

This semester, I had been meeting with my mentor, Linda Belfus, who has been one of the most helpful mentors I've had at Penn State. She's helped me grow my network by putting me in contact with her other mentees, who have shared their experiences with the program with me and shared career advice with me as well. Linda has also helped me tailor my resume to fit my career interests.

How did this experience impact you academically?

This experience has impacted me academically by showing me how important it is to take classes you enjoy but that also could prepare you for your potential future career. It has also shown me how important it is to build a network at Penn State so that you have time to develop and hone these relationships.

How will this experience impact your career goals?

This experience has impacted my career goals by helping me prep for interviews, giving me career advice, etc. that has changed the trajectory (in the best way) of what career I see myself pursuing. I initially thought I wanted to pursue a career in publishing or journalism, but I think I see myself heading into marketing or advertising post-graduation.

How has the College of the Liberal Arts helped you to find and/or succeed in this experience (e.g., adviser, faculty, staff, enrichment funds, etc.)?

I found out about this experience on the College of the Liberal Arts website. The College of the Liberal Arts helped me succeed in this experience through the help of Lauren Granese. Lauren has been such a great resource for me to have over the last year; she is always able to answer any questions I have or point me in the right direction. She has been just as crucial to me having a positive experience with the Alumni Mentor Program as has my mentor, Linda Belfus.
