Give us a brief summary of your experience?

Over the past two months I have had a wonderful experience working under and shadowing Scott Sidwell. He has forced me to ask questions I never would have thought to answer and allowed me to research the athletic department and opportunities to improve the way the athletic department functions. I am given a new brand of the department to research each week.

[This internship] was one of the most impactful experiences if not THE most impactful experience I have had in my four years at Penn State.

How did this experience impact you academically?

Being a senior, I have a complete understanding of how to use my time wisely. Even though there was thorough research that needed to be done by both Tuesday and Thursday each week, it did not have a negative effect on my other classes. Overall, from a learning perspective, having ideas, creativity, and the ability to think critically were vital within my internship. Therefore, it was one of the most impactful experiences if not THE most impactful experience I have had in my four years at Penn State.

How will this experience impact your career goals?

Working alongside multiple individuals who have endless experience within the athletic department is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I want to be involved with athletics for the rest of my life, whether it is working directly with student-athletes in welfare and development or within the external or internal operations side of things where I can create and observe objectives for the school I work at. Either way I am making connections and learning things I have never known, all while being forced to think critically.

How has the College of the Liberal Arts helped you to find and/or succeed in this experience (e.g., adviser, faculty, staff, enrichment funds, etc.)?

I found the internship by myself using the connections I made over the past four years within the athletic department at Penn State. However, my athletic academic advisor, Joey Ianiero, posed it as a possibility which became a reality.
