What was the best part of your experience?

The best part of this embedded course for me was the privilege of meeting Holocaust survivors. Without this trip, I would have never had the opportunity to directly talk with and ask questions to survivors. I was honored that they felt that myself and other students could be “passeurs” or transmitters of their stories. Although, I was heartbroken to hear one survivor explain that she felt the rise of anti-Semitism in France to remind her greatly of 1939 - something I will never forget that fuels me to pass on her story and the story of others.

As I move onto medical school, I hope I can be a part of travel experiences to help aid communities as well as supplement my own education in a hands-on experience

How did this experience impact you academically?

While my academic plans have not changed, this embedded course experience has made me more receptive to further educational travel experiences. As I move onto medical school, I hope I can be a part of travel experiences to help aid communities as well as supplement my own education in a hands-on experience.

How will this experience impact your career goals?

My career goals are still the same - to become a physician - but in general I feel this trip has helped me become a better citizen of this world, and in turn I will be a better doctor. I hope to become a psychiatrist, and after this experience I think it would be interesting to work with victims of trauma, a thought that came to me after hearing about the mental illnesses the survivor Ester Senot, a survivor of Auschwitz, suffered with.
