PSYCH 299: Understanding Educational and Vocational Opportunities for Children and Youth in Cambodia
Up one level
Sydney Mingle

Liberal Arts Major(s): Psychology
Hometown: Statesville, North Carolina

What was the best part of your experience?

The best part of the experience was meeting elementary school students from the area and watching them laugh and play games despite the language barrier. Not only did we get to learn about the education systems, but we also got to participate in them.

Being surrounded by children and families that spend years trying to achieve even the smallest level of education motivates me to make the most of the opportunity that I have at Penn State.

How did this experience impact you academically?

We got to see firsthand that many people across the world are not as fortunate when it comes to access to a good education. Being surrounded by children and families that spend years trying to achieve even the smallest level of education motivates me to make the most of the opportunity that I have at Penn State.

How will this experience impact your career goals?

I've known for a long time that in my future I wanted to work with younger generations and populations, and this trip has only cemented that fact. Watching the unbridledness of children regardless of their social or financial situation makes me excited to work with children in the future and attempt to make an impact on their lives.
