What was the best part of your experience?

The best part of my experience was meeting the inmates and hearing about their stories and perspectives on their current situations. Learning about these inmates has made me realize more and more that these individuals are just people. Something so obvious can be forgotten because the media portrays them as evil and intimidating. In actuality, there are varying personalities and core beliefs found within this population, just like any other population. It is necessary to remember that these individuals have committed a crime, but their humanity should not be taken away because of the choice they made.

I have taken CRIM 100 and read about what kind of things occur within a prison, but nothing compares to actually experiencing what you read

How did this experience impact you academically?

Academically, I am far more knowledgeable about how a prison actually operates compared to what I thought I knew from media portrayal. I have taken CRIM 100 and read about what kind of things occur within a prison, but nothing compares to actually experiencing what you read. It provides a whole new perspective on the same topic - this time not through the eyes of the author, but through your own eyes. I have gained tremendous knowledge about the prison, and I appreciate everyone's involvement in my journey.

How will this experience impact your career goals?

This experience has impacted my career goals by giving me a better sense of direction for what I want to do with my future. My goal of becoming a Forensic Psychologist has not changed, but I have become more confident that this is my desired pathway.
