What was the best part of your experience?
The best part of my experience was the cultural and language immersion process along with the amazing people I met on my study abroad trip. Immersing myself within an entirely new culture and language allowed me to develop a better understanding of different ways of life and a new appreciation for Latin American culture and the Spanish language.
I have been able to broaden my America-centric understanding of political systems, pursuing studies in courses such as Populism or Argentine political systems to better understand Latin American politics
How did this experience impact you academically?
From an academic perspective, studying abroad in Argentina has allowed me to expand upon my Penn State education. I have been able to broaden my America-centric understanding of political systems, pursuing studies in courses such as Populism or Argentine political systems to better understand Latin American politics. My Spanish language skills have improved due to my home-stay experience, Spanish courses, and conversations with locals. In addition to my language advancement and enhancement of my political science studies, studying abroad allowed me to work in a non-profit, developing a firsthand look at major social issues within Argentina and giving me the ability to immerse myself in an entirely new cultural setting.
How will this experience impact your career goals?
For my desired career in politics, exposure to other cultures and languages will enable me to better understand different viewpoints in terms of political stances, communicate with various constituencies due to my enhanced Spanish language skills, and understand social issues impacting certain sectors of the population. Additionally, my education in Latin American political systems will allow me to reflect on those of the United States.
