CRIM 451: Race, Crime and Justice
Up one level
David Cruz

Liberal Arts Major(s): Criminology
Hometown: Lowell, Massachusetts

What was the best part of your experience?

I got to translate from Spanish to English for the Venex Curaçao Foundation, explaining the application of correctional policy towards illegal Venezuelan immigrants migrating to Curaçao for asylum.

I got to learn things not only from a criminological standpoint but also from a cultural point of view

How did this experience impact you academically?

I got to learn a lot about the different policing/correctional policies in the country. We compared a lot of the strategies we use in the United States with those used in Curaçao and saw how they applied those distinct tactics to their criminal justice system.

How will this experience impact your career goals?

I got to learn things not only from a criminological standpoint but also from a cultural point of view. As a future Air Force Officer who will be traveling the world and experiencing new cultures everywhere I go, this experience helped me further diversify myself and be more open minded about different policies and different cultures.
