What was the best part of your experience?

The best part of the experience was gaining a greater appreciation for different components of the University by seeing the impact of philanthropy firsthand. Furthermore, it was great to get to know some of our incredibly dedicated alumni, staff, and other philanthropic students. The people of Penn State are truly what makes our institution as great as it is, and I am proud to say I was able to interact with them this summer.

How did this experience impact you academically?

This experience opened my eyes to so many new areas of Penn State that I had not previously understood or appreciated. Because of this increased exposure to new areas of Penn State, I find myself taking classes that I would not have previously taken before, and it has been a very rewarding experience thus far this semester.

How will this experience impact your career goals?

Being that there were so many personal and professional development opportunities that required moments of deep self-reflection, this experience greatly helped clarify my career goals. Prior to the internship, I was planning on going to law school and becoming an attorney; after the internship, I realized my personal values and interests were beginning to go in a different direction. I now hope to get an MBA at some point and go into a career in consulting or finance.

How has the Paterno Fellows Program had an impact on this experience?

The Paterno Fellows Program played a major role in making this experience as rewarding as it was. Because of the enrichment funds from the program, I was able to focus on my internship and not have to get another job on the side to provide housing or my weekly groceries. Further, the Paterno Fellows Programs has challenged me to perform better academically and to achieve my true overall potential.
