What was the best part of your experience?

The best part of my experience working as a summer associate this past summer with UPMC was the real-life experience. I went to work each day and learned skills that will help me with my future career in the field of Human Resources. My internship with UPMC was nothing like the stereotypical "the intern gets coffees for the office" type of internship. I was invigorated and completely involved with my work.

Academically, my experience with UPMC showed me how important my classes are for my future career.

How did this experience impact you academically?

Academically, my experience with UPMC showed me how important my classes are for my future career. At my internship, I found myself using terms and phrases I learned in so many of my LER courses here at Penn State. For instance, I learned a lot about the Work-Life Balance in LER 472 with Sarah Damaske, which I then translated into my internship this summer.

How will this experience impact your career goals?

My internship with UPMC this past summer has drastically impacted my future career goals. I will be graduating in May 2019, and in June 2019, I will complete the summer internship with UPMC for another summer and start applying to full-time positions within the company. I found my love for Employee Relations while working at UPMC.
