What was the best part of your experience?

The Office of Digital Pedagogy and Scholarship is a unique department that offers resources and services to faculty to enhance their curriculum through the use of technology. Last year the office, alongside the History department, developed the 1968 Moments of Change course focusing on the year of 1968. The main focus of this course was for the students to pair up with alumni who graduated around the year 1968 and compose an oral history. I was able to conduct three oral histories of alumni and tell their stories when we first developed the course in order to provide the class with an example of the assignment. This meaningful experience allowed me to explore my history degree in a more hands-on manner while assisting in course development.

How did this experience impact you academically?

This internship has permitted me to work with dozens of faculty members, allowing me to make connections and network, while learning more about each department within the College of the Liberal Arts.

How will this experience impact your career goals?

I hope to eventually attend graduate school where I can pursue higher education and the field called Learning, Design and Technology to work as an instructional designer for a college. This department has shown me the importance of technology in higher education and how it can enhance a student's learning experience. I am excited to use this passion to further my education and work in a similar career as my supervisors do in the future.

How has the Paterno Fellows Program had an impact on this experience?

The Paterno Fellows Program has offered me financial support as well as connections to certain faculty who needed technology consultations which I was able to provide. I was also selected due to my Paterno Fellows standing to be the student speaker at the College of the Liberal Arts incoming student event in Fall 2017 and speak about the many opportunities I have been able to participate in as a member of this College.
