What was the best part of your experience?

The highlight of this internship for me was the opportunity to publish my first piece of writing. I have written a White Paper on the use of blockchain technology in the renewable sector which is currently posted on the EcoMotion website. Despite being an economics major, writing has always been one of my passions, and I have learned so much from having the opportunity to practice it in a professional setting!

Seeing firsthand how many West Coast people, companies, cities and governments are actively working toward a greener tomorrow without even being asked has renewed my passion for environmental work.

How did this experience impact you academically?

This summer as the Solar and Sustainability Intern at EcoMotion I was able to gain hands on experience in the industry of renewable energy. On a daily basis, I conducted market and industry research to analyze different groups of potential clientele and organize them based on importance. This gave me valuable insight into how to find accurate information and integrate large amounts of research into a concise and understandable deliverable. The skills I learned will be incredibly useful academically when I have assignments that require research.

How will this experience impact your career goals?

This internship helped shape my career goals by changing my perspective on green energy. I have always been passionate about environmental protection and sustainability, but I was losing my enthusiasm due to the constant resistance I received from most people asked to make a change. By moving to the West Coast, the Mecca of green energy technology, I realized how far the renewable energy movement has come. On the East Coast, there is a completely different mentality toward sustainability. Most people view it as a chore or simply just don’t care. Seeing firsthand how many West Coast people, companies, cities and governments are actively working toward a greener tomorrow without even being asked has renewed my passion for environmental work and inspired me to pursue a career in the industry.
