What was the best part of your experience?

The best part of my experience was learning about all of the different options I have for my future career that I never knew were possibilities before my internship. Everyone I met with at Showtime and the Smithsonian Channel was so willing to tell me about their experiences and their roles within the company, and I gained so much in terms of career knowledge, a professional and personal network, and awareness of my potential.

How did this experience impact you academically?

This internship not only enriched me in terms of networking and career possibilities, but it also enriched me with general knowledge that could serve me in many aspects of life. The Smithsonian Channel is dedicated to providing information in an entertaining way through their various programs, and because part of my responsibilities included reviewing/logging content and conducting research, I was exposed to a wealth of knowledge regarding culture, history, politics, science and more that I know will benefit me academically.

I gained so much in terms of career knowledge, a professional and personal network, and awareness of my potential.

How will this experience impact your career goals?

My time at Showtime and with the Smithsonian Channel in particular helped me determine that in the future I want to work in the entertainment business, specifically at a company that releases content that serves to benefit those who watch it. I was inspired by the informational content that the Smithsonian Channel works so hard to promote and release. After this summer, I know that I want to use my creative abilities and organizational skills to work in entertainment logistics/development and hopefully help others in the process.
