Major: Criminology/Security & Risk Analysis
Hometown: Pittsburgh, PA

How did you learn about this opportunity?

I learned about the enrichment through an email to my webmail that mentioned you could receive funding from the College of Liberal Arts. Nobody told me; I just saw the information through an email and looked it up for myself.

Tell us a little bit about your experience.

My experience working with Ernst & Young was great. I had the opportunity to work with three different clients during my internship. I had the chance to travel to Chicago for a week to train with hundreds of other interns. The culture was amazing and the teams I worked on really made me feel welcomed. The opportunity was great and definitely make me attractive to future employers.

How did this experience impact you academically?

I learned a lot of things that you wouldn't learn in the classroom. I had the chance to analyze data, test security controls, use different databases, and a whole list of other relevant things.

Academically I learned a lot of things that you wouldn't learn in the classroom. I had the chance to analyze data, test security controls, use different databases, and a whole list of other relevant things. I brushed up on my project management, and professional skills during my internship that is hard to learn in the classroom. I had the opportunity to really work and see what it is like to deal with multiple projects at a time. I have grown a lot due to my internship.

What are your career goals and plans?  How did this experience impact them?

My career plans and goals are to work for the federal government. I am pursuing criminology and information and cyber security to give me an advantage to someday work for the government. I spent two years in Naval ROTC and I currently work for the Auxiliary Police. I am always trying to find ways to make me stand out. My internship really allowed me to gain relevant work experience that would better me as a professional in IT and cyber security.

Would you recommend this experience to other Liberal Arts students?

Yes I would. I understand how difficult it is for Liberal Arts student to find find internships or study abroad programs that provide funding for them. The College of Liberal Arts and Chapel Executive Program really gives students the ability to complete programs without the financial pressure of not being able to afford the program. It was a big help to support my summer internship.
