How did you learn about this opportunity?

I found out about the mentor program through the Career Enrichment Network website.

Tell us a little bit about your experience.

My mentor was a huge help in guiding me while I was applying for summer internships. He was always willing to give me advice and look over my application materials like resumes, cover letters, and writing samples. We even did a mock interview together and he gave me valuable advice regarding study abroad and networking. Sometimes we talked once a week or sometimes we only talked once a month but he always went out of his way to ensure I was equipped to fulfill my professional goals.

How did this experience impact you academically?

There is a lot of flexibility in how active you are in the program, but ultimately your mentor is another great resource for you to use at Penn State.

My mentor helped me talk through my professional goals and shape my course load around them.

What are your career goals and plans?  How did this experience impact them?

I am interested in working in public affairs after graduation. My mentor gave me advice on internships I should apply for and provided support throughout the entire application process. He was also always willing to talk about my career goals and gave me valuable advice on achieving them.

Would you recommend this experience to other Liberal Arts students?

I would recommend the mentor program to everyone. Being in the program has helped me create career goals and actively work towards achieving them. There is a lot of flexibility in how active you are in the program and what you use your mentor for but ultimately your mentor is another great resource for you to use at Penn State.
