Internship with Publicis Groupe Re:Sources
Up one level
Angelique Santiago

Major: Political Science, Communication Arts and Sciences
Hometown: Peekskill

How did you learn about this opportunity?

I emailed my resume to the VP of Re:Sources who then forwarded my resume to the Senior Talent Acquisition Consultant located at a branch office in Chicago.

Tell us a little bit about your experience.

I believe this internship was a great experience. I experienced commuting on the subway, working 9-5 at my own desk, attending corporate meetings, and working the occasional overtime. At Re:Sources, I learned about the job of a media payables analyst, which consists of running reports, trying to match invoices with the system, and reaching out to vendors like Google, Amazon, and Twitter in order to obtain the required information to process payments. I got to work with a lot of different people, and learned how to use systems I had never heard of before like MBOX and Prisma. This internship has definitely helped me acquire new skills that I will be able to use in school, and in other professions.

How did this experience impact you academically?

Learning the job of a Media Payables Analyst has forced me to pay more attention to detail which I feel can help me in array of classes I may take at school. Also, I can say that I am proficient in Microsoft Excel which will come in handy for any math or science general education courses that I am required to take. Moreover, with procedures always changing I had to take good notes and be an active and engaged member of corporate meetings to ensure the job got done properly in a brand new way.

What are your career goals and plans?  How did this experience impact them?

I have had the experience of using different systems and communicating with people to deal with payments. This experience is something I can build off of until I have a position in my desired career.

I aspire to get involved in a career that is hands-on and interactive. With a Political Science and Communications Arts and Sciences background I aim to get involved in the Public Diplomacy division of the Foreign Service. The Foreign Service is unique because it requires well-rounded individuals who know a little bit of everything, ranging from history, economics, pop culture, and so on. Publicis Groupe may be a PR/ Advertising corporation, but it has given me basic skills that I can use as a foundation and can apply to my field of interest. One of the many things that Public Diplomacy Officers do is manage people, programs, budgets, and resources. While being a Media Payables Analyst and a Public Diplomacy Officer are very different, I have had the experience of using different systems and communicating with people to deal with payments. This experience is something I can build off of until I have a position in my desired career.

Would you recommend this experience to other Liberal Arts students?

I would recommend this experience to other Liberal Arts students because it is a great way to get your foot into the corporate world, and learn a different part of the PR/Advertising industry that most people forget about.
