Kenya Sherice Mann Equity and Justice Award

This award provides recognition to staff members employed in the College of the Liberal Arts, or successor academic unit, who are making a difference by developing, supporting, and/or promoting programs and initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Rising Star Award

This award provides recognition to employees who demonstrate a quality of performance that indicates they will continue to develop into an exemplary employee.  The employee shows passion for their work while exemplifying professionalism and dedication to the mission of their department and the College.

Outstanding Customer Service Award

This award provides recognition to employees who provide exemplary service to our customers. The College values excellent customer service and encourages all employees to focus on understanding the needs of those we serve to include both internal and external customers. Our emphasis in customer service should be on providing top quality service with the expectation that customers will be treated respectfully, cordially, and effectively. This award recognizes employees who have made exceptional contributions in this area, exceeding normal expectations, and delivering superior quality service to our customers.  Customers include the following: Students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and any recipient of a service that we provide.

Innovation and Change Award

This award provides recognition to employees, or a team of employees, who initiate change and uses creativity to develop new or improved processes, methods, systems, products, or services, embraces change and inspires others to adapt to change.

Liberal Arts Ambassador

This award provides recognition to employees who demonstrate an outstanding and enthusiastic attitude, works to build a positive atmosphere of trust, inclusion, and mutual respect, serves as a model for collaboration and collegiality, and exhibits genuine appreciation for others, valuing diversity by treating everyone with respect.

Staff Excellence Award

This award provides recognition to employees who consistently demonstrate a high level of dedication and commitment to the unit and College.  The employee has a positive and influential impact on the work environment, displays professionalism and initiative, and fosters cooperation and collaboration among peers and supervisors while carrying out their daily job responsibilities.

Liberal Arts Excellence in Leadership and Mentoring Award

This award provides recognition to employees who exhibit exemplary performance, is an effective leader, mentors others, and positively demonstrates the University’s core values (Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Discovery, Excellence, and Community).

 Tips for selecting a nominee

  1. Consider staff across the college - the nominee does not have to be in your department.
  2. If nominating someone outside of your department, consider discussing with their supervisor in advance.
  3. Read the award descriptions carefully and ensure that the nominee truly lives the spirit of the award.
  4. Think about exceptional experiences you have had over the year. Who contributed to that experience in a meaningful way?

Tips for writing letters

  1. Collaborate with others to create one compelling argument for why your nominee is most deserving of the award. 
  2. Use concrete examples of behaviors that demonstrate how your nominee exemplifies the intent of the award.
  3. Avoid using generalities.
  4. Stick to the requirements of the letter.
  5. Ask others, who support your nomination, to review your letter for clarity and specifics.
  6. Take time to understand all of the awards to ensure you are nominating for the most appropriate award.
  7. Start your letter in advance of the deadline so that you are not rushed and can fully dedicate time to crafting a persuasive letter.
