Research and Service Awards

Faculty Scholar - Life Sciences **See Above

Faculty Scholar - Social Sciences

Faculty Scholar - Humanities Recognition of scholarly or creative excellence represented by a single contribution or a series of contributions around a coherent theme on work culminating in the past five years. These awards require external letters. **See Above

President's Award for Excellence in Academic Integration A faculty member who has exhibited extraordinary achievement in the integration of teaching and research or creative accomplishments, and service. This award can include external letters. **See Above

Roy C. Buck Recognizes the best article accepted or published by a refereed scholarly journal in the social sciences within the last year, with some preference given to articles focusing on minority issues in the USA.

Class of 1933 Distinction in the Humanities Award A faculty member who, by his or her outstanding work in the field of humanities, has proved an inspiration in that field.

Raymond Lombra Award for Distinction in the Social or Life Sciences

Pavouček Shields Faculty Award A tenured faculty member who has undertaken professionally oriented service and mentoring on behalf of women at the university.

Service to the College Award This award honors faculty or staff members' contributions to their department, the college, and/or the University. The award winner is selected by the Dean at the end of January each year.

Professorships

Distinguished Distinguished Professors must be current, full-time active members of the faculty holding the rank of Professor, not currently holding an endowed chair, professorship, or faculty fellowship, and be acknowledged leaders in their fields of research or creative activity.

Evan Pugh The designation of Evan Pugh University Professor is the highest distinction that the University can bestow upon a faculty member. An Evan Pugh University Professor must be a current professor with at least five years of service to Penn State, who is an acknowledged and documented leader in his or her field of research or creative activity; who demonstrates significant leadership in raising the standards of the University with respect to teaching, research, or creative activity and service; who demonstrates excellent teaching skills and contributes significantly to the education of undergraduates and graduates, who has subsequently achieved recognition for excellence in his or her field; who has strong support from colleagues, within and outside the University, who are also recognized as established senior scholars and leaders.

Liberal Arts Liberal Arts Professors must be current, full-time active members of the faculty holding the rank of Professor, not currently holding an endowed chair, professorship, or faculty fellowship, and be acknowledged leaders in their fields of research or creative activity.

Sparks Sparks Professors must be current, full-time active members of the faculty holding the rank of Professor, not currently holding an endowed chair, professorship, or faculty fellowship, be a faculty member in a humanities discipline, including humanists in social science departments, and be acknowledged leaders in their fields of research or creative activity.

Emeritus Award

Emeritus Distinction Award Awarded to outstanding emeritus faculty who has held emeritus rank for at least two years and is outstanding in one or more of the following: related scholarly activities, teaching, direct service to the College and public service.

University Achievement Awards

These award nominations will be processed through the University's Office of Human Resources and the call will be announced in the fall.

Other Awards

Penn State LaureateA poet laureate, humanities laureate, or fine arts laureate to appear regularly at University events through the state at community and state-wide events. Full time faculty who will be assigned halftime to serve for one academic year.
