General Information

This award provides recognition to a faculty member in the College of the Liberal Arts whose commitment to sustainability in their teaching, research or service is exceptional and best exemplifies professionalism and dedication to the mission of the College and the University. Penn State’s Sustainability Strategic Plan defines sustainability “the simultaneous pursuit of human health and happiness, environmental quality, and economic well-being for current and future generations.” We are looking for a faculty member who has displayed exceptional commitment to sustainability in their teaching, research, or service or through an initiative that has enhanced sustainability in the College of the Liberal Arts. We seek self-nominations as well as nominations from department and program heads, supervisors, and coworkers for all types of work. The winner(s) will receive an engraved Nittany Lion statue and a one-time monetary award.

Eligibility

All full and part time faculty in the College of the Liberal Arts are eligible to apply for this award. Past recipients of the award are eligible for nomination in the same category after three years.

  • Employed by the College for a minimum of one year as of the nomination deadline
  • Demonstrated exemplary commitment to sustainability and impact of actions on advancing sustainability in the College
  • Dedicated to the College and unit mission
