Binney Wietlisbach does not believe in shortcuts in work or life. Her successful career in the financial services industry began at the entry-level position as a money counter for a large bank. She worked her way up to become a teller and finally entered a financial management training program. Today, Binney is president of The Haverford Trust Company, located in the greater Philadelphia area. The $6+ billion company provides investment management, trust and estate services, and retirement planning to individuals, multi-generational families, private foundations, nonprofits, and endowments.
Binney’s strong work ethic and persistence, along with her management experience and psychology degree, have served her well in an industry traditionally dominated by male executives. The Penn State graduate joined the firm in 1992 and is now recognized as one of the “Top 100 Female Financial Advisors” in the country by Barron’s.
In addition to her leadership role, Binney takes a hands-on approach in coaching up-and-coming executives.
Her mentorships also extend well beyond the firm. At a meeting with College of the Liberal Arts women’s studies students, Binney spoke about her experiences as a female executive and provided guidance on work, motherhood, and life in general.
Binney and her husband, Bruce, have two active teenage children. Despite her crowded work and home schedules, she gives back to her community as a member of the Board of Directors for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the top-ranked children’s hospital in the U.S. according to U.S. News and World Report; The Caroline A. Buck Foundation, a nonprofit that helps underprivileged children; F.O.C.U.S Advisory Board; and raises money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In her limited spare time, Binney still competes on the golf course, continuing her love of intramural and club sports from her days as a Penn State student.
