How did you learn about this opportunity?

I came across this internship opportunity on an ad in the "Toilet Paper" in the HUB (which is just the HUB's version of Stall Stories). Ironically, one of my duties within my internship is to create the Toilet Paper every week.

Tell us a little bit about your experience.

My experience has been a lot of fun and extremely beneficial. Everyday I work with students from Recognized Student Organizations in helping them promote their club or event. After a Recognized Student Organization finalized how they wish to market their event, I would further guide them in the process of putting this plan into action. I ran the digital marketing on the HUB televisions and kiosks, so I would determine how long to run each organization’s ad for. I created posters and banners for the organization to hang around campus. I created weekly versions of the Toilet Paper and tickets for campus events. All in all, I had an amazing experience interacting with all of the university’s organizations in assisting with their marketing needs.

How did this experience impact you academically?

The main way in which this experience impacted me academically was by enhancing my time management skills. Knowing that I had to work at least ten hours every week, while still understanding that my class work was a main priority was a lot tougher than I imagined. However once I settled into the semester and created a schedule, I would set aside work time from school work time. Aside from enhancing my time management skills, I would also say that this internship helped me become more of a leader within the classroom. Being a leader to my peers in the marketing world through this internship gave me the confidence in leading my group projects in class.

"This internship helped me become more of a leader within the classroom."

What are your career goals and plans?  How did this experience impact them?

I’ve always had an interest in the marketing world, so I thought this internship would be the perfect segue into the post-graduation world. Ultimately, I would like to end up in the marketing department of a successful company and work my way up the ladder within the company. My passion for marketing is so strong because many companies rely on marketing in order to be successful. I believe I can take the marketing strategies I learned from this internship into my future career. The customer service skills I learned within this internship will also help me in my future career. I learned quickly within this internship that customer service is extremely important in order for a company to do well.

Would you recommend this experience to other Liberal Arts students?

I would definitely recommend this internship to other Liberal Arts students! This opportunity gave me more professional experience that will only help within the workplace after graduation. My supervisor was an amazing leader, but she also allowed me to challenge myself and figure things out on my own. She was extremely understanding in that I was still a full time student, so she was flexible about my work schedule which was a huge help. At first I was nervous to intern while still being a full time student, but I’m grateful that this opportunity presented itself to me. Everyday I could see how I personally impacted USA Marketing, and it was rewarding to know that I helped so many students in marketing events for the club they are so passionate about.
