How did you learn about this opportunity?
I was talking to my academic advisor to decide what classes I should have taken in Fall 2015. I was looking for a 400 level class for my major, so she suggested I can earn academic credits by doing an internship and Independent Studies.
Tell us a little bit about your experience.
It gave me a lot of experience in new things as well, such as filming and editing a video, creating posts for different social media platforms, [and] planning activities to promote the app.
I am interning in SHELF Cosmetics as a Marketing Assistant. It is a mobile app company that helps women around the world answer all of their questions related to nail polish. I enjoyed interning with this company a lot. I had a lot of fun working individually and as a group. It gave me a lot of experience in new things as well, such as filming and editing a video, creating posts for different social media platform, planning activities to promote the app, and looking for people to download the app and do the interviews.
How did this experience impact you academically?
This experience has been strongly impacting me academically, because I am working and studying at the same time. I need to have good time management to spend time on studying for my classes and doing tasks every week for my internship. Even though the work load is not a lot, I still need to spend a certain amount of time every week to do the work. Other than that, I am using my knowledge that I learn from class to help myself finish the task faster. For example, I learned iMovie in an art class, and I use that knowledge to edit video instead of spending a lot of time watching the tutorial.
What are your career goals and plans? How did this experience impact them?
I believe being a Marketing Assistant in SHELF Cosmetics can help my career path in the future. My dream job is to work in a mobile app company or work related to social media, so it is exactly what I am doing now. However, getting a full time job is much more difficult than getting an internship, so I plan to do the best at my internship, and work hard on learning new things, marketing my skills, and improving my communication. When I have some working experience and am sure what I want to do, I would like to come back to college to finish a graduate program.
Would you recommend this experience to other Liberal Arts students?
Yes, I strong recommend this experience to other Liberal Art students, because the book that we are using can give me a lot of good advice to get used to a work place and know what I should expect when I first go to a new working experience. It is very useful, and save a lot time from discovering everything by yourself.
