Liberal Arts Centennial Fellows

Twenty-two Centennial Fellows have made their communities and their professions better and their lives have “swelled …the fame” of Penn State and the College of the Liberal Arts. They represent the achievements of more than 100,000 graduates of the College over one hundred years and exemplify the life-long value of a liberal arts education.   

Following are the Liberal Arts Centennial Fellows, their graduation years, their professional titles, and an example of accomplishment:

  • H. Jesse Arnelle, '55, Retired Senior Partner with the civil litigation and public finance law firm of Arnelle, Hastie, McGee, Willis, and Greene of San Francisco and a member of Penn State’s Board of Trustees;
  • Steven Brose, ’69, Partner and Department Head of Regulatory and Industry Affairs at Steptoe & Johnson, a Washington D.C. law firm involving matters of the oil and gas pipeline industry;
  • Ronald Filippelli, ’60, Retired Associate Dean of the College of the Liberal Arts and labor studies historian;
  • Lewis H. Gold, ’59, Attorney with Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC, a top national full-service law firm, and former President of the Penn State Alumni Association;
  • George C. Greer, ’54, Chair, Eden Hall Foundation and retired Vice President of Heinz Company in Pittsburgh; 
  • David S. Krause, '69, Senior Vice President of R&D and Chief Medical Officer of Zelos Therapeutics, which specializes in the development of innovative treatments for bone disorders and related treatment areas; 
  • Charles H. Lutz, ’67, Retired Senior Executive of the U.S. Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration;
  • Bonnie Smith Marshall, ’70, Vice President for Development for The Second Mile, a non-profit organization serving at risk children and families, and former Director of Development, College of the Liberal Arts;
  • Kye Lyn Mitchell, ’91, President of the Atlantic Region for Kforce Professional Staffing, a national professional staffing firm in finance and information technology; 
  • David Morrell, ’67, Best selling author of action thrillers including First Blood, introducing the character of Rambo,and Brotherhood of the Rose; 
  • George T. Richards, ’54, Retired CEO of Vitex Packaging, manufacturer of materials for the tea industry;
  • Anne Riley,’64, Retired English Teacher with a 31-year career at State College Area High School,  former President of the Penn State Alumni Association, and member of the University’s Board of Trustees; 
  • Barry K. Robinson, '67, Retired Senior Counsel for Corporate Affairs for the Recording Industry Association of America, Inc., and emeritus member of the University’s Board of Trustees; 
  • Raymond H. Robinson, '49, '50g, Professor of American History at Northeastern University for more than fifty years;
  • Marvin J. Rudnitsky, ’64, Managing Partner of Rudnitsky & Hackman, LLP, specializing in business, trust, and estate planning; 
  • Mark C. Schechter, '73, '75g, Senior Partner in the Washington, D.C., law firm Howrey LLP, specializing in anti-trust matters;
  • David F. Seiders, '70, Retired Chief Economist, National Home Builders Association;
  • Joanna Shields, '84, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of new company that will pursue partnerships aimed at fusing television production with social media. The company is founded by Shields and Elisabeth Murdoch of the Shine Group;
  • Edgar Snyder, '63, Attorney and Founder of Edgar Snyder & Associates law firm, the premier injury law firm in Pennsylvania;
  • Mark Stitzer, '82, Managing Director, Hamlin Capital Management, an investment advisory firm;
  • Gilbert R. Watz, ’49, Retired Planning Specialist for Exxon Mobil Oil Company.
