Liberal Arts Centennial, 1909–2009
The College of the Liberal Arts is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding in 1909 with year-round activities that recognize the accomplishments and contributions of its faculty, students, and alumni. We have established two special awards to commemorate the occasion—the Liberal Arts Centennial Fellow Award and the Sparks Centennial Medalist Award.
The Fellow award honors our alumni, while the Medalist Award recognizes friends of the College who have provided significant leadership to the College of the Liberal Arts through their involvement and support of the College’s programs.
The Centennial Web site also boasts the profiles of just a few of the beloved faculty and staff who have guided and inspired our former students to achieve their dreams and to give back to their communities. Other updates are posted on the Happenings link, such as photos of the spring semester commencement ceremonies and of Centennial alumni Marshal Stew Brunhouse and commencement speaker Nina Jablonski, professor and head of the Department of Anthropology.
Our Centennial motto is "Building on Tradition, Shaping the Future." Continuing the success of the past one hundred years and heading into the next one hundred years, the College of the Liberal Arts will move toward national leadership in the teaching of critical thinking and analysis, communications and leadership skills, and the breadth and depth of knowledge that sustains a democratic society.
