President's Fund for Undergraduate Research
Liberal Arts undergraduate students who are participating in undergraduate research may request financial support for their endeavors.
The primary goal of these funds is to "encourage faculty to engage undergraduate students in research" and they may be used to support students involved in activities directly related to research, research on faculty projects, or research on students' own interests. For example: purchase supplies and materials used in research projects, reimbursement of travel to research sites, wage payroll, and reimbursement of travel to conferences. In the past, awards have ranged from $200 to $1500.
These funds will be available on an application basis. In an effort to keep this process as simple as possible, please encourage interested faculty to send an e-mail to Holly Dickey (hms4@psu.edu) containing the following information:
A brief summary of the proposed research project;
- The name(s) and major(s) of the student(s) participating in the research;
- The amount of funding requested;
- Evidence that the proposal is approved by the department head (anything from a one-sentence endorsement to a commitment of some matching funds would do).
Requests received by December 1, 2006 will be given first preference, but we will continue to consider requests until all funds are expended.
