Resources and Links for Prospective Liberal Arts Students

What are the admission requirements?
There are different admission requirements based on what type of student you will be. If you will be coming directly after high school, or if you will transferring in with fewer than 18 credits, you will be considered a first-year student. Here are the admissions requirements for first-year students. If you have already attempted at least 18 credits at another educational institution, you will be considered a transfer student. Here are the admissions requirement for transfer students.

How do I plan a visit to the University Park campus?
The Undergraduate Admissions Office offers campus tours and informational sessions to prospective students and their families. We recommend that you contact Admissions first and schedule a tour and informational session. If you are interested in a major (or more) in the Liberal Arts, you may also schedule an appointment to meet with one of the advisers in the Undergraduate Studies office. Because many of your questions will be answered at the information session at admissions, we recommend that you schedule your appointment with Undergraduate Studies after your appointment with Admissions. You may contact Admissions at 814-865-5471 or visit their website at http://admissions.psu.edu/pennstate/visit/up/index.cfm. To schedule your appointment with an Undergraduate Studies adviser, call our office at 814-865-2545. We are open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Where can I find information about financial aid and scholarships?
You should contact the Office of Student Aid for most information concerning financial aid. A limited number of Liberal Arts scholarships are also available. You should contact the Alumni Relations and Development Office at 814-863-1827 to determine if you are eligible or visit Financial Aid and Scholarships.

When will I schedule my courses?
All incoming first-year students participate in the First-Year Testing, Counseling, and Advising Program (FTCAP) before their first semester of classes. This program allows students to develop a schedule reflective of their strengths and interests. Typically students will participate in FTCAP during the summer prior to the start of their first semester. For more information on the FTCAP program, please go to http://www.psu.edu/dus/ftcap.

What housing options are available?
All first-year students are required to live on campus unless they are commuting. On campus housing procedures and information are available through the Housing and Food Services site. If you will be a transfer student, the Office of Off-Campus Living through Student Affairs has information about off-campus options.

How do I get a campus map?
A visitor's guide is available online. It includes a campus map, directions to University Park, and an interactive parking guide. The Liberal Arts Undergraduate Studies office is located in 101 Sparks Building, near the library, along Fraser Road between Curtin Road and Pollock Road.
