Concurrent Major

Students whose current major is in the College of the Liberal Arts wishing to declare a concurrent major in Liberal Arts should:

  1. Visit the office of their current major to meet with a major adviser and to obtain the signatures of the academic adviser and department head (concurrent major forms are available in department offices).
  2. Visit the office of the major they wish to add to meet with an adviser and to obtain the signatures of the academic adviser and department head.
  3. If both majors are offered in the College of the Liberal Arts, promptly return the form to Undergraduate Studies in 101 Sparks Building for the dean's signature for both majors.
  4. Students will receive an e-mail message to their Penn State access account when the second major has been added.

Please note that it may take up to two weeks from the time that your concurrent major form is submitted to 101 Sparks Building for this to appear on your transcript.

Students whose current major is not in the College of the Liberal Arts wishing to declare a concurrent major in Liberal Arts should:

  1. Visit the office of their current major to meet with a major adviser and to obtain the signatures of the academic adviser and department head (concurrent major forms are available in department offices).
  2. Obtain the signature of the dean of the current college.
  3. Visit the office of the major they wish to add to meet with an adviser and to obtain the signatures of the academic adviser and department head.
  4. Promptly return the form to Undergraduate Studies in 101 Sparks Building for the dean's signature.
  5. Students will receive an e-mail message to their Penn State access account when the second major has been added.

Students whose current major is in the College of the Liberal Arts wishing to add a concurrent major in a college outside of Liberal Arts should:

  1. Visit the office of their current major to meet with a major adviser and to obtain the signatures of the academic adviser and department head (concurrent major forms are available in department offices).
  2. Obtain the signature of the dean of the current college.
  3. Visit the office of the major they wish to add to meet with an adviser and to obtain the signatures of the academic adviser and department head.
  4. Obtain the signature of the dean of the college which you wish to add.
  5. The dean's office of the second college will process the paperwork and will forward a copy to the College of the Liberal Arts.
  6. Students will receive an e-mail message to their Penn State access account when the second major has been added.

Canceling a Concurrent Major

A student may cancel a Liberal Arts concurrent major at any time by filing a concurrent major cancellation form in the Undergraduate Studies Office in 101 Sparks Building.
