The International Studies major is intended to provide, for undergraduate students in another major, the opportunity for an integrated course of international study leading to a second baccalaureate major. This major is available only as a multiple major. The program includes twelve credits of foreign language study beyond the twelfth-credit level or equivalent proficiency, an education abroad or equivalent work/internship experience, related advanced course work, and a capstone course in international studies. The language, international experience, and advanced study should be integrated around a thematic or geographical focus.
The degree (B.A., B.S., B.F.A., etc.) will normally match the student’s first major.
RELATED EXPERIENCES
The International Studies major encourages the completion of significant international study including foreign language competency to the advanced level, approved education or work experience abroad, additional advanced study, and a capstone course or senior project with an international focus.
CAREER DIRECTIONS
Available to all students, this major is intended to provide a significant expertise in foreign language and international study in order to place every student’s major in a global context. The goal is to prepare students better for understanding the global environment and diverse society in which they will live out their lives in the twenty-first century.
