First-Year Seminar Funding Initiative
The College of the Liberal Arts offers modest funds--available on a first come, first served basis-to help faculty enhance student opportunities within their FYS courses. Examples of past usage of these funds include field trips to museums, guest speaker honoraria, tickets to see a performance, and purchase of supplemental class materials such as videos. If you are interested in applying for funding, simply send a brief description of your intended expenditure (cost estimates) to Christine Laur, (claur@psu.edu). Once you receive approval, your department must first spend the money. Please understand that the departments must first provide faculty with the funds. Departments are reimbursed through this funding initiative. Faculty must keep all receipts in order for their departments to be reimbursed.
In Summary, to apply for First-year seminar funding:
- Gain approval for departmental funds from the first-year seminar instructor's department.
- E-mail request for FYS funds to Christine Laur (claur@psu.edu) to receive final authorized budget amount.
- If approved, then make appropriate purchases and save all receipts in order for your department to receive reimbursement through the LAUS department budget process.
- Submit all receipts to Sarah Derber (sad3@psu.edu) in 102 Sparks who will initiate the paperwork to reimburse the department.
