Why should I consider an Internship?

Internships offer you a career-related work experience in which you truly have the chance to learn by doing. An internship gives you an opportunity to do the following:

  • “test drive” a career … see if it’s really for you during a summer or semester before you make a long-term commitment and accept a job offer
  • develop new skills and gain professional work experience that increases your marketability upon graduation
  • put your classroom knowledge to the test in workplace situations
  • learn from professionals and develop a network of contacts (your internship supervisor or a colleague could be a future employer, or an important reference for a future job)

Internships are highly recommended for all undergraduate students, and are particularly important for those students whose major course of study does not directly relate to a specific career field.
