la 495: Liberal Arts internships
information for students
|
Do you wonder what you’ll be doing after you graduate? If you plan to enter the work force, you should complement your academic preparation with a range of out-of-classroom experiences—education abroad, undergraduate research, community service, participation in student organizations, and internships. A common theme in any entry level job search is the difficulty in finding a first position without experience. It’s a “catch 22” that you’ve no doubt heard: you can’t get a job without experience, and you can’t get experience without a job. When the time comes for you to tackle this dilemma, though, an internship could be your key to bridging that gap. As a candidate for an LA 495 internship at Penn State, you may enroll in a College-wide internship course (LA 495.1) or an internship course run by a particular academic department (LA 495.2 – 18). Note that if you are interested in an internship closely related to a particular Liberal Arts discipline, you must first contact your adviser and/or that department’s internship coordinator before beginning your search or applying for internships. In addition to these department contacts, Ashley Tarbet, the College Internship Coordinator, is available to answer any general questions you have about internships or inquiries about LA 495.1, the College-wide internship course that provides 400-level elective credit.
