FAQ for employers
Q: If I advertise an internship through the College of the Liberal Arts, do I have to promise that I will fill that vacancy with a Penn State Liberal Arts intern? Likewise, will I be agreeing to take a Penn State Liberal Arts student each semester or year if I take an intern one semester?
A: No. We will advertise your vacancy with no strings attached. Just as we cannot promise you an intern, you are not promising us that you will fill your vacancy with a Penn State student. Similarly, if you do take a Penn State Liberal Arts intern one semester, you are under no obligation to take another—although we certainly hope that you are interested in doing so!
Q: I could potentially be interested in an intern from five or six different Liberal Arts departments. How can I best and most efficiently advertise my internship vacancy to those students?
A: Fill out our internship vacancy form, indicating the majors and/or minors in which you are interested. The College Internship Coordinator will post your vacancy under Current Opportunities on the main LA 495 website with a note about your preferences. She can also pass your vacancy along to internship coordinators in those particular departments, who will alert their majors to the opening.
Q: What departments and programs are located in the College of the Liberal Arts?
A: For a list of our degree programs, see the “Academic Units” portion of the main College of the Liberal Arts page. Also keep in mind that many of our students participate in the Business and the Liberal Arts minor; many of these students are interested in internship opportunities.
Q: How would my organization benefit by requesting multiple and/or continuous interns from the College of the Liberal Arts?
A: We will devote the most energy to advertising internship vacancies posted by organizations interested in multiple and/or continuous interns. Also, you will likely find that maintaining an internship program from year to year will ultimately be more efficient for your company than hosting interns periodically.
Q: We have not yet put together a full description of the internship that our organization plans to advertise, but we would like to start looking for interested students. Can we advertise a position with the limited information that we have now?
A: We would prefer that you send us a full description of the internship so that students can make an informed decision as to whether or not they are interested in it. However, in some cases we will post very brief descriptions, provided you let the students know exactly whom they can contact for more information.
Q: What happens if I fill the single internship vacancy that I have advertised with the College of the Liberal Arts and am no longer looking for an intern?
A: Contact the College Internship Coordinator, who will take down your internship posting from the LA 495 website. If you have contacted internship coordinators from specific academic departments, let them know that the position is no longer available as well. When another opening becomes available, simply contact the coordinator or fill out a new internship vacancy form.
