Liberal Arts Outstanding Teaching Award for Graduate Students

General Information
The purpose of this annual Outstanding Teaching Award is to recognize graduate students in the College of the Liberal Arts whose accomplishments in the classroom are deemed to be exceptional and who have thus made a significant contribution to the educations of our undergraduate students.
Eligibility
To be considered for this award, a graduate student must:
- be full time as either a Teaching Assistant or a Fixed-Term 2 appointment;
- have independent responsibility for a class or classes or be a faculty teaching assistant in a large lecture class;
- have taught at Penn State for at least one year;
- be an M.A., M.F.A., or Ph.D. degree candidate;
- have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in his or her own graduate work.
Nomination Guidelines
Students, staff, and faculty members may nominate a graduate student for this award. Each department/program in the College may submit one nomination. An electronic copy of the nomination packet in PDF must be sent by a graduate director or department head to the CLA Graduate Office contact, Brandy Bower (bvb2@psu.edu) by October 15, 2009.
Please send the following nomination materials in PDF format, collated in the order listed below:
- Letter of nomination from the Department Head or Program Director
- Vita
- Summary chart of all SRTEs (please include course title with course number and SRTE scores), including class size. Also, please include GPAs if possible. Do not include copies of originals.
- One or two letters of recommendation. One letter must be from a Teaching Assistant Supervisor/Course Coordinator who has observed the graduate student's class.
A certificate of merit and $500 are awarded to a graduate student who has be selected for the year. The awards are made during the Alumni Awards Reception held in the Spring.
