Graduate Program Chair Leadership Award

General Information

The Graduate Program Chair Leadership Award is meant to recognize faculty members for exemplary leadership benefiting graduate students and faculty in an existing graduate degree program at Penn State. Such leadership includes, but is not limited to: enhancement of student recruitment, professionsl development, and placement; mentoring and promotion of faculty and students in the program; enhancement of program diversity, educational quality, resources, and national visibility; promotion of professional ethics and its integration into all elements of graduate programming (academic, research, professional conduct, etc.); other efforts that enhance the stature of the graduate program both internally and externally. A faculty member may only receive this award once.

Eligibility

To be considered for this award, a faculty member must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an approved member of the graduate faculty at Penn State;
  • Current or recent chair of an existing graduate degree program;
  • Demonstrated excellence in leadership of graduate education.
Nomination Process

Nominations may be submitted by graduate students or faculty. An electronic copy of the nomination packet in PDF form must be sent to the CLA Graduate Office contact, Brandy Bower (bvb2@psu.edu) by October 15, 2009.

Nominations should include the following:

  • a completed nomination form;
  • a narrative statement that clearly identifies and provides supporting evidence for outstanding qualities of the nominee relevant to the purpose of the award, as described above.

Members of the Graduate Council Committee on Fellowships and Awards will select the recipient, who will receive a cash award of $1,000 and a plaque at the Faculty/Staff Recognition Luncheon in Spring 2010.
