November 25 - A DAY IN THE LIFE: THE PENN STATE COMMUNITY: WORK PLACE RESPONSES TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.
Please note: This session will begin at 8:30 AM and will be held in Room 121 Sparks Building.
Funded by a grant from the Verizon Foundation, and with a collaborative effort by the Penn State Public Broadcasting and training expertise of the Centre County Women’s Resource Center, this is a comprehensive educational program designed for University employees and students. This program offers employees accurate and helpful information about the dynamics of domestic violence and the resources available to assist victims. After attending, employees will be able to identify and respond appropriately when confronted with a co-worker or a student who is experiencing domestic violence.

December 9 - DEMYSTIFYING EXTERNAL FUNDING

Presenter: Trish Alexander, Associate Director for Grants and Contracts
This workshop will provide a brief overview of external grants and contracts from cradle to grave. Topics covered will include the process of the proposal submission, the awarded project, post-award administration, generation of revenue, and why in the world do we even do this? At the end of the session, you should have a better understanding of the whole external funding process, the need for external funding, and why the role of the departmental staff is so important.

January 21 - HOW TO DEAL WITH ETHICAL ISSUES IN THE WORKPLACE
9:00 – 10:30 AM, Room 124 Sparks Building
Jonathan Marks, Associate Professor of Bioethics, Humanities and Law; Director, Bioethics and Medical Humanities Program, and Acting Director, Rock Ethics Institute will present educational objectives regarding ethics in the workplace. He will address examples of ethical issues in the workplace, will help staff develop analytical tools to address them, and to develop creative solutions for those issues. If anyone has encountered an ethical challenge in the workplace, please share it with Betsy Will (ejw5@psu.edu) by January 6, 2009. Dr. Marks is looking for case studies to be part of our discussion and would like to include examples actually experienced by College staff. All submissions shall remain anonymous.
