Council Member
Douglas Rock, ’68 psychology, Woodlands, Texas, is Special Executive Advisor and Chairman of Smith International Inc., a supplier of products and services to the oil and gas exploration and production industry, the petrochemical industry, and other industrial markets. He joined Smith in 1974 and served as Chairman of the Board, CEO, and President in the following decades. He is a director of the Petroleum Equipment Supplies Association and on the board of directors for the Viad Corporation.
Doug and his wife, Julie, endowed the Rock Ethics Institute at Penn State. Named a Penn State Alumni Fellow and Distinguished Alumnus, Doug is Chairman of the Rock Ethics Institute External Advisory Board and member of the Liberal Arts Development Council and the Gift Planning and Communications Task Force. He is also a member of the University's For the Future: The Campaign for Penn State Students Campaign Executive Committee.
Julie and Doug are members of the Mount Nittany Society and the Laurel Circle.
